WHO AM I?

A woman with shoulder-length dark hair smiling and holding a painting of a gray cat with green eyes, lying on a green background, inside a room with large windows and modern furniture.

Hello! I’m Eiko Tabata. I was born in Japan but moved to the US when I was in my early 20s. I never imagined that I would some day become an artist. It had been years since I even picked up my brushes until one day I learned about an upcoming pet portrait event in my area. My beloved cat had passed away and I really loved the idea of being able to memorialize her onto a canvas. I ended up getting so much more from that event than just a beautiful painting of my furry baby. I was re-introduced to a hidden passion and I have not put my brushes down ever since.

It’s been quite a journey, from pet portraits to capturing the beauty of nature. Click the LEARN MORE button below to read my full story.

Introduction to Drawing

For some of you, drawing may sound boring because it typically uses just a pencil and an eraser and doesn’t provide any color. But it is actually pretty deep. Even if we use just the bare minimum tools, drawing offers so many skills and techniques to the artist. It teaches you many core skills such as lines, shapes, perspectives, and more. As an artist, they are extremely important for me to understand and apply to my works. Once you master these principals, you could apply them to many different forms of art, including painting, mural art, or even content creation for the social media.

Starting in Jan 2026, I’m going to teach a basic drawing class to a community that I belong to and I’m very excited about it. At this time, I don’t have any on-line classes but my intention is to expand to the virtual space in the not too distant future. I’ll be sure let you know when I’m ready to share that news.
