The Cherry blossom is known as being a signature of Japan.  It blooms only for a few days, followed by the falling of the flowered pedals.  It is delicate and graceful, almost as if it comes and goes like the wind.  If you find the perfect moment, make a wish under the cherry tree, and you will feel blessed.

When I was a kid, I had the joy of seeing a big cherry blossom tree outside of my school for many years.  It stood out from everything else in May, when it bloomed flowers.  I loved the pink blossoms and after flowers fell, I could not wait to see them again next spring.  After I grew up, I went to see the cherry blossom in Sapporo city where I lived.  We called it ‘Ohanami’, which means observing flower, but what we did was much deeper than that.  It was a friend/family gathering with food and drinks, catching up with stories and watching each year as the kids of our family and friends grew.  The Cherry tree has been deeply ingrained into the Japanese people and culture for hundreds of years.  Ancient Japanese praised the beauty of its falling flowers in haiku (poetry), and today, people dress up with kimonos and observe cherry trees.

As many Japanese do, I feel nostalgic when I see cherry trees, reminding me of my childhood.
