In life, we always face the question, do we travel the beaten path or do we dare take the path less traveled. This bridge is at the cross roads and we get the opportunity to make the ultimate decision. This can be nerve racking but don’t worry for there is a clue... always look to the ancient symbol of knowledge to help enlighten the way.

In the ancient city Kyoto, you will find an abundance of Koi fish and old bridges. This bridge in particular stands out because it finds itself at the cross roads highlighted on both sides by an array of cherry blossom trees. During the spring, you will see the beautiful pink flower pedals all over the bridge. Almost as if to announce the birth of a new arrival. I have to say, my ancient Japanese ancestors really knew how to highlight many of the soothing elements that nature would gift. I could imagine people congregated around this bridge, sharing stories about the paths that they had chosen to travel. I’m guessing that some of these types of discussions continue on today.

As a Japanese artist, I wanted to capture this peaceful moment on canvas.
