A playful leopard resting on a branch, preparing for her next frolic in the snow.
The leopard in this picture is called an Amur leopard. Amur leopards lives primarily in southeastern Russia and northern China. It has become well adapted to the cold climate and the heavy snowfall of the region. Due to human activities, its population had dwindled during 20th century and is listed as a Critically Endangered animal on the IUCN Red List. Fortunately, the number of wild Amur leopards has recovered somewhat. It was reported that roughly 110 individuals exist in the wild today.
My hope is that we can find a way to protect their habitats and do a better job at preserving this species. Although cats have an amazing instinct and survival skills, our harmful actions could wipe out this population. We want to make sure that future generations will be able to experience these animals in the wild.
